Week 5- Sometimes Less is More

I struggled to come up with a theme for this post. This week started on a rather low note for me. Weight loss is not linear and oftentimes you feel like you’re on a roller coaster. Unfortunately, your emotions go along for the ride as well. Monday, I sat in Linda’s office and just cried. I was exhausted from my weekend at work, disappointed that my weight stayed the same and baffled as to why the pounds weren’t coming off faster. I’m sure some of you know the feeling I’m talking about, rather I’m hoping I’m not alone here. I am busting my butt day in and day out with my workouts and following the the Take It Off program religiously. So, what gives?

Going over everything again, we are testing out whether I’m working out too much, or rather not giving my body enough time to recover. I did a tough cardio workout on Tuesday, which was mostly exhausting due to the Expresso. Man, those bikes are no joke at all. Wednesday, I took off completely. I spent most of my morning lounging before work and lo and behold, on Thursday morning, I felt refreshed and I had a significant weight loss when I got to the gym.  I’ve been steadily losing weight every weigh in except last Monday’s, but Thursday was the first time I felt like I had actually accomplished something. Let’s hope we’re on to something here!

In other news, I have to just say thank you to everyone at EFC who has helped me out this week. Linda is always there to reassure me that we will figure out how to make this work. She’s always positive and can always find a way to make me feel better when I’m questioning the process. My trainers have been fantastic, keeping me on track and motivated every step of the way. I am always greeted with a smile when I walk through the doors even if it’s the 3rd time I’ve been there that day. I appreciate those little gestures and appreciate that it feels like everyone is invested in this journey and want to do whatever they can to help. So thank you, EFC!

So as I sign off from week 5, I encourage you to take my advice. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes you need to just take a break and let your body do it’s thing. In no way am I saying please go be a couch potato for a week but sometimes we all need a day off. My goal for this next week is to try to let go of some of the stress that I’m putting on myself mentally. There’s no way I can be stress-free, that’s just not me. But I’m really going to try to have more of a “go with the flow,” take it day by day attitude! Hope you all have a good week and here’s to hoping for a week of decent weather!

    I’m glad that you found your way over that mountain.
    ‘Go with the flow’ is the perfect mantra for you this week.

    Lastly, you may disagree but I am seeing a difference in you these days. That’s a wonderful thing.

  2. Congrats on your journey, Sarah! Half the battle is figuring out what works for your body since we’re not all the same. I wanted to recommend you check out Molly Galbraith sometime when you get a chance. I think some of her blog posts might resonate with you and you might consider checking out her new program called Girls Gone Strong when you’re done with your program at EFC! Keep up the good work (and recovery)!
